Keyboardist Rick Wakeman, known for his work with Yes, David Bowie, and Strawbs, has postponed his upcoming U.S. tour, which was originally scheduled to begin on July 18. Wakeman’s publicist issued a statement that said, “doctors have recommended that he undergo surgery this month to correct an ongoing health issue.” The 76-year-old music legend has had a long history of health problems, including arthritis, diabetes and macular degeneration, as well as experiencing a series of heart attacks in his 20s. Ticketholders for the nine postponed July dates have been advised to hold onto their tickets for rescheduled performances, while Wakeman’s U.K. tour in October remains unaffected. The postponed tour was to feature new adaptations of his music for piano and vocals with singer Hayley Sanderson, who has collaborated with Wakeman on a series of his recent albums.
